wedding birds 9 reasons for a wedding officiant
Being a wedding officiant is very uplifting and fulfilling because you are helping to provide couples with an essential service… as opposed to trying to sell them something they don’t need. It’s great to be able to help people with something they do need!

Here are 9 reasons a couple may need a wedding officiant:

1. Their Pastor, Priest, Rabbi, etc. is Not Available.
There are many reasons a couple may need a wedding officiant as opposed to using a pastor or other religious figure head from their faith. Perhaps one or both members of the wedding couple belong to a church but the pastor, priest, rabbi etc. is not available.

2.
Different Faith Systems
Sometimes the couple might be of two different denominations or completely different faith systems and the rules do not allow the wedding to be performed in their house of worship.

3. Not Currently a Member of a Church
Maybe they do have a specific religion they belong to but they are not currently a member of a church.

4.
Older Couples
Many older couples do not wish to have a traditional big church wedding and opt for a simple “elopement” or small gathering ceremony.

5. Not the First Marriage
Perhaps it is not the first marriage for the bride and/or groom and they prefer a more low-key wedding ceremony.

6. Couple Together for a Lengthy Time
There are also situations when a couple may have been together for a lengthy time and they do not feel comfortable with a big traditional ceremony. They wish to have a simple yet beautiful ceremony that may even include sentiments in the vows that specifically refer to their long-time relationship instead of a typical ceremony.

7. Special Location
Maybe the couple has a special location they wish to be married, outdoors, casual, or quirky that is special to them at a specific location they have a special memory of. Or perhaps the memory of the special place revolves around a loved one that has passed on and they wish to be married there, a special park, beach, home or yard. They may belong to a church organization that only allows weddings in the house of worship and so they look to you to perform their wedding at their special place.

8. Urgency
The need for a wedding to be performed immediately is also a common reason for a wedding officiant to be utilized. A member of the military might want to be married prior to deployment. Or perhaps there is a medical issue or surgery scheduled or pregnancy involved. Many scenarios could possibly arise where a couple needs to get married ASAP and how rewarding it will feel when you can step in and relieve their anxiety and perform the ceremony expeditiously.

9. Destination weddings
Going out of the country, to a Caribbean Island or other exotic place for a wedding is gaining in popularity and sometimes there is so much red tape and bureaucracy involved in obtaining a legal marriage certificate at the destination location that the couple will decide to get a simple legal ceremony prior to the big destination wedding. Sometimes the couple may not even tell everyone that they were already married. It’s kind of exciting don’t you think, for the couple to “secretly” get married before they fly off to be married “again” with all their friends and family at the fabulous destination wedding they have planned!

I’m sure you can think of even more scenarios in which your services as a wedding officiant will be needed. Keep in mind the specific needs that may arise for your targeted clients, the culture and lifestyles of the people in your area that you feel will probably be your clients. Think about it and write down your ideas so that you can keep it in mind as you make your business plan and create your niche.
