A good way to get customers to your website is to make sure you place high in the list of Google search results and to have your photo appear next to your listing.

The placement of the photo in the Google search results is part of what is called Google Authorship. The photo that Google displays next to your site listing in the search results is from your Google+ profile.

As you follow the steps to obtain your Google Authorship verification, keep in mind, it is the Photo and Profile info from your personal Google+ page Not your business page that you will be working with.

Microsoft Store

It helps to be on the Google radar in as many ways as possible in order to promote your website. You may want to participate in some or all of the Google tools offered, such as: Google Webmaster Tools, Google Analytics, Google+, Google Places (see related article > Promote Your Business On The Web Using Free Local Platforms), submit your site to Google and the subject of this blogost; Google Authorship.

Follow the steps outlined below to submit your website for Google Authorship verification.

> Create a Google+ Account

You must first have a Google+ Profile with a headshot photo of yourself as your profile picture.

> Add your byline to all your website pages.

Make sure that your byline appears on all of the website pages and/or blog pages and articles you have written and posted/published. The name in the byline must match the name in your Google+ profile.
If you use Weebly for your website builder you can easily add your byline to all pages by just entering it once in the Footer Element....

And/Or you can enter your byline on your Weebly website into the Blog Page sidebar....

The footer or the sidebar may be a good place for your byline.

> Submit Your Domain For Google Authorship And Verification

Using an email address for the same domain you are submitting for authorship, (such as [email protected]), click here to go to page to submit your site for authorship. It will look like this if you are signed into Google...

Enter an email address that includes your domain name.
If you don't see a place to enter the email address when you go to the authorship page, it is because you are not signed in. You will need to sign in to Google for the signup box to appear.

The Easiest Way to Create a Website. Weebly.com

> Click Verify Next To Your Email Address In Your Google+ Profile

Go to your Google+ Profile, Contact Information, and there you will see a blue link to Verify the email address you just submitted for authorship. Click on Verify next to your email address.
click on verify email address
Click on Verify, next to your email address in the Contact Information section of your Google+ profile.

Google responds with a notice at the top of the page telling you that a verification email has been sent to your address.

> The Verification Continues, Go To Your Email And Click The Verify Button

You should receive an email from Google+ asking you to Click the verify button. Click on the red Verify button.

Google responds with this message...

Google responds, telling you that you have successfully verified the email address you submitted for authorship.

And now you should see a check mark next to the email address in your Google+ profile, contact information. The check mark indicates the email address has been verified.

> Troubleshooting

Google does not really tell you how long it takes for authorship (your photo) to appear in the search results. Give it a few days or even a couple of weeks. You can also do some troubleshooting and see if there are any problems with your authorship submission by going to the Google help page "Author information not appearing".

If everything goes well, you should eventually see your photo appearing in the Google search results.

According to some marketing statistics, folks are more likely to click on your link if it is accompanied by an image.

If all goes well your photo should appear next to your listing.
Good Luck and if you have any questions just let me know.

Thank you for specifying how to add a byline in Weebly! I've been searching around and it seems you're the only one who mentions it! Very helpful! :)

Hi, would you be able to tell me how i can verify my email address when using a free weebly subdomain if you could please?

Since it seems that you have to verify your email from an email related to then domain you own, im guessing i need to use an email address from weebly.com, but i can't find out how to do this?

Any help would be much appreciated, thanks! :)

If you don't have your own email address with a domain that you own, you will need to use a different option for validating your authorship with Google... they offer a second option that involves copying a line of html and pasting it into your websites webpage. I find that with Weebly the footer is a good place to put it. You can follow these steps as outlined by Google by copying the link at the end of this comment into your browser, then when you see the Google help info regarding authorship validation, click on Option 2 .... https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/1408986?expand=option2

Thanks a million for the reply Avery, il try that and let you know how i get on :)

At the minute it's only showing my google + username under the title in the serps so hopefully this will fix the problem and let me properly verify the site.

Thanks again, and talk again :)
